British Bangladeshi girl Farhana Ahmed made an outstanding achievement
Desk Report: British girl of Bangladeshi origin Farhana Ahmed has become a Barrister in her very young age having made outstanding achievements in her academic and vocational studies. She was only 22 when she was Called to the Bar on last Thursday (24 November) by the world’s renowned Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. With the Bar Practice Course (Bar-at-Law), she has also successfully completed Master of Laws (LLM). Farhana did not miss nor was there any gap of year, session or month and that is why she was able to become a Barrister in very young age.
In both LLM and Bar-at-Law Course, Barrister Farhana made outstanding results. She achieved 75% marks in her LLM Dissertation/Thesis. In some Modules of her Bar-at-Law Course she obtained very high marks. In Criminal Litigation Module she scored 75% marks and Judicial Review Module she obtained 77% marks.
Barrister Farhana Ahmed was a meritorious student from her childhood. She obtained a First Class Law Degree (LLB Hons) from the world renowned City Law School, University of London – with an overall average mark of 76.3%. In some subjects, Farhana Ahmed’s high marks broke past records for her Law Department. Farhana was awarded 81.5% in Family Law, 81.5% in Company Law, 82% in Comparative Constitutional Law, 82.8% in Criminal Law, 83% in the Professional Qualification Module, 85% in Immigration Law and 88% in Advanced Criminal Law. While she was studying for Law Degree, Farhana Ahmed got an offer from three renowned universities to do the Bar-at-Law Course and LLM simultaneously. Form one university, she got an unconventional offer even before her results of the Law Degree came out. Farhana Ahmed got £5,000 scholarship in her Bar-at-Law Course.
Born and brought up in London, and always a high achiever academically, Barrister Farhana aspires to become a High Court Judge one day.
Barrister Farhana’s older sister, Tasnia Ahmed, graduated with an Upper Second Class LLB (Hons) from the University of Westminster. Her younger sister Tahmina Ahmed is in Second Year studying BSc (Hons) Management at Queen Mary, University of London. Her overall First Year result was First Class. Barrister Farhana’s younger brother Ahsan Ahmed did an outstanding result in his GCSE earlier this year and is currently doing A levels in Brampton Manor Academy, one of the best /top Sixth Forms in the UK. Her younger brother is in year 7 at Brampton Manor Secondary School.
Reacting to her brilliant result, Barrister Farhana said, “I am extremely happy with my results. I am thankful to my Almighty God. I am grateful to my fantastic parents and teachers. Without their guidance, mentoring and support I wouldn’t be able to achieve what I did.”
She further said “I know many students from my community who, if mentored and nurtured properly, can achieve brilliant results. I am committed to play a key role in establishing the rule of law and making my community enlightened.”
Barrister Farhana is the second child of renowned Practising Barrister in the British-Bangladeshi community, former Councillor and Deputy Speaker of the London Borough of Newham for three terms Barrister Nazir Ahmed and poet Salma Ahmed. Farhana’s father was called to the Bar by the same Inn exactly 23 years ago. The parents of Farhana Ahmed are from Bahara Dubag under Biswanath Upazila of Sylhet District.
