Andrew ‘living in limbo’ as result of Epstein investigation
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor feels he is “living in limbo” as he waits for the long-running police investigation into him to conclude, The Telegraph has been told.
The former Duke of York – once nicknamed Air Miles Andy because of his regular overseas trips – has effectively been in exile at his home on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk since his arrest on Feb 19.
It is understood that he has been advised to stay out of the public eye and avoid drawing attention to himself while police continue to investigate his relationship with the paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Friends insist that he is “making the most” of the situation and is very much focused on his new life in Norfolk. There is also a sense of relief at being out of the Windsor Great Park “bubble”.
But with the criminal investigation likely to continue for many more months, friends have expressed concern over the continued uncertainty.
A source close to the former Duke said: “While Andrew remains under investigation after being arrested by Thames Valley Police seven months ago, he has effectively been living in limbo.
“Although there are no formal conditions which prevent him from travelling while this drags on, he cannot really stray far beyond his home. He cannot live his normal life as the police investigation goes on.
“In the meantime, Thames Valley Police seems to be no nearer being able to prove an allegation of misconduct in a public office, for which Andrew was detained back in February.”There was notable frustration among Buckingham Palace courtiers when Mr Mountbatten-Windsor was regularly photographed out riding in Windsor, ensuring that his image and the accompanying reminder of his involvement in the Epstein scandal, was never far from the front pages.
