Muhammed Joynul Abadin: British Member of Parliament, Sam Tarry, successfully concluded his four-day visit to Dhaka from November 26th to December 1st, responding to an invitation extended by the United Development Initiatives for Programmed Actions (UDDIPAN). The purpose of the visit was to provide Mr. Tarry with first hand experience of the development activities taking place in Bangladesh, particularly those led by UDDIPAN in support of socio-economic advancement for disadvantaged and marginalized populations. During his stay, Mr. Tarry met with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and undertook a visit to the Shwapno superstore, exploring the potential of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG),
food, and beverages in the UK market. The Labour Party leader also made a field visit to UDDIPAN’s daily project and the proposed university campus in Vakurta, Savar, on his first day in Dhaka. Accompanied by UDDIPAN Chairman Md Nazrul Islam Khan and Board Member and Advisor on International Affairs Nazir Alam and his friend and advisor Zahin Ahmed. Mr. Tarry
expressed his commitment to understanding and supporting Bangladesh’s ongoing development efforts. UDDIPAN Chairman Md Nazrul Islam Khan conveyed his gratitude for the British politician’s visit, emphasizing the rapid economic growth of Bangladesh and the capacity of the country to achieve further milestones. He highlighted UDDIPAN’s role as a non-governmental development agency supporting Bangladesh’s journey towards becoming a developed nation. UDDIPAN Director Nazir Alam spoke about the potential for Bangladeshi products to enter the European market and Mr. Tarry’s ability to contribute to economic cooperation, given his representation of a constituency hosting a significant South Asian community in the UK.
As part of his itinerary, Mr. Tarry visited Rahim Afrooz’s factory in Ishwardhi to explore the potential of batteries and solar solutions for the UK market. Meetings with representatives of UDDIPAN Renewable Energy Limited (UREL) focused on bilateral trade and investment in the renewable energy sector. The visit concluded with a tour of Walton Electronics’ factory. Known for his diverse engagement in both politics and sports, Samuel Tarry, a passionate rugby player himself, participated in a rugby friendly organized by the Bangladesh Rugby Federation. This aligns with his commitment to work towards bringing the sport to the country. Today, on December 1, 2023, Mr. Tarry hosted a press briefing in Parliament to discuss his trip, sharing valuable insights into the developmental initiatives he witnessed during his visit to Bangladesh.
The highlight of Mr. Tarry’s visit was the inauguration of the “Simulation Lab & Space 39” at SKS Tower in the capital, showcasing UDDIPAN’s commitment to innovation and progress. This event took place before Mr. Tarry departed from Dhaka.
