Newham, Baking & Dagenham Liberal Democrats Launch“Diverse Volunteers”
Bangla sanglap desk: Newham, Baking & Dagenham Liberal Democrats have today launched their “Diverse Volunteers” initiative. This is a drive to make the Party more responsive to the needs of our local community by appealing for volunteers from diverse backgrounds. The party hopes to increase the diversity at all levels, including its decision making executive committee. A new Diversity Officer will be appointed to the committee.
The Liberal Democrats recently published their 2019 Election Review which strongly criticised the party for not engaging with BAME communities. The whole party is committed to correcting this. In Newham, Barking & Dagenham we see our first step is to involve more of our supporters from BAME communities in our party leadership and campaigns.
Election results alone show that there are thousands of people across Newham, Barking & Dagenham who agree with the Lib Dem world-view or policies but who have not felt they could volunteer for the party. Our hope for the Diverse Volunteers initiative is that these groups of people feel that they can come forward, share their experiences and help us make the party as diverse and inclusive as we would all want it to be.
